Setting up the G36 as a USB modem on Windows XP

The G36 supports both GPRS and 3G data connections. To use the G36 for data, you must first have the relevant service activated on the SIM card by your network provider.


Installing the G36 as a modem

Insert the G36 CD into your PC.
Power on the G36 and connect the USB cable to a spare port on your computer. Windows will detect the new hardware automatically and the Add New Hardware Wizard will be displayed:

If Windows prompts you to connect to the Internet to locate a driver, select No, not this time and click Next.

Select the option to Install the software automatically (Recommended) and click Next

If you receive a warning that the driver file has not been approved by Microsoft, select the option to Continue Anyway

Once the hardware wizard has completed, click Finish.

You will need to run through this process twice.


Creating a 3G/GPRS Internet connection

Open the Control Panel and double click the Phone and Modem Options icon:

Click on the Modems tab. Select the Ericsson G3x Fixed Wireless Terminal Modem and click Properties.

Click on the Advanced tab:

In the Extra initialization commands field enter the relevant settings for your network provider:

Orange

T-Mobile

Click OK, and OK again.

Return to the Control Panel, double click the Network Connections icon.

Select the option to Create a new connection. The New Connection Wizard will be displayed, click Next.

Select the option to Connect to the Internet and click Next

Select the option to Set up my connection manually and click Next

Select the option to Connect using a dial-up modem and click Next

Select the Ericsson G3x Fixed Wireless Terminal Modem and click Next

Enter a name for the Internet connection and click Next

In the Phone Number field, enter *99***1# and click Next

In the User Name and Password fields, enter the correct details for your network provider:

O2

‘web’ for both

Orange

leave blank

Vodafone

‘web’ for both

T-Mobile

leave blank

Click Next

Click Finish

Your Internet connection has been created. To initiate the connection, simply double click the icon.
