User Interface

The Rhyme runs version 3.5 of HTC's Sense "skin" for Android, which features a revised home screen layout, putting your most-frequently accessed applications within reach of your thumb and providing at-a-glance access to updates and messages.

You get the same 7 homescreens accessed by sliding to the left or right of the main landing screen, and screens rotate on a carousel effect so there is no need to scroll from the left-most screen back to the right-most

As with all HTC devices, a wide range of attractive and useful widgets are provided, with more available from the Android Market, each of which can be placed on any of the homescreens to suit your preference, as can shortcuts to applications, contacts, web pages, hardware controls and more.

Running programs, hardware controls and notifications can all be accessed and managed quickly and easily by sliding down the notification bar at the top of the screen:

Endo-mondo

Endo-mondo is a workout and personal fitness trainer that allows you to keep track of workout sessions, allows you to compete against friends online and select music tracks to play during your workout.

Tango

Tango is an Internet telephone and video calling service provider, similar to Skype or Google Voice, allowing you to place calls to friends and family.

Voice Dialler

As its name suggests allows you to verbally place calls to people in your contacts list, dial numbers or launch applications all with the power of your voice.

Scan

This application can scan all manner of barcodes and QR codes using the device camera, allowing you quickly collect product information, web links, contact details and more.

Notes

The Notes application, as its name suggests, allows you to create notes on the fly, but in addition to simple text-based aide-memoires, you can attach images, documents, calendar events and create sound recordings:

Watch

Watch is HTC's movie rental service that allows you to purchase and stream film content to your device and share that content between up to 5 other devices

Polaris Office

This office suite allows you to view Microsoft Office format documents, and also create and edit Word and Excel documents on the fly

HTC Family

Family is a new service from HTC that allows family members to group their HTC Sense accounts and share events, contacts, send messages and "check in" to locations via GPS so other members can see where that person is.

Email

The Rhyme can automatically configure accounts for a number of common email service providers simply by entering your email address and password, from which it will determine the correct settings to use, including Hotmail, GMail and Yahoo

Of note is the updated HTC email client for Microsoft Exchange, which now supports Task synchronisation as well as email, contacts and calendar:

Multiple email accounts, including Exchange email accounts, can be configured on the Rhyme, all which can be viewed individually or combined in a single unified Inbox view, colour coded

Messages can also be grouped by conversation if desired, and messages received from your "Favourite" contacts can also be viewed separately.

and a synchronisation schedule can be defined so that messages are only pushed to your device on certain days during certain hours. Outside of those hours, messages can optionally be checked on a schedule or not at all

Connectivity

The Rhyme can be used to share its own high-speed 3G Internet connection with other devices via WiFi, turning the device into a portable wireless hotspot. Up to 5 devices can be connected concurrently, and the link can be secured with encryption to prevent unauthorised access

The Rhyme can also be used as a USB modem on Windows and Mac, or can share the Internet connection of a Windows or Mac PC when connected via USB in Internet Passthrough mode.
