As expected Microsoft have unveiled the next iteration of Windows Mobile, named 7 Series to bring it in line with the latest version of the desktop version of Windows.
New features will include a tiled home screen, with each tile (or "hub" to use Microsoft parlance) being able to update content in real time from the Internet. Hubs can be altered by theme, but will include by default People, Pictures, Games, Music & Video, Marketplace and Office. The People hub will offer social networking interaction with online services such as Twitter and Facebook. Pictures will enable online image sharing and Games will integrate with Xbox Live. The Music hub will bring the Zune-style interface to Windows Phone 7 Series devices.
Microsoft have taken the decision to require that hardware manufacturers include a dedicated "Bing" button that will take users directly to the Microsoft search engine when used.
It will also not be possible to include any user interface other than Microsoft's own (bad news for HTC's Sense UI potentially)
