Xobni, (inbox spelt backwards), the developers of an inbox management and social networking integration plug-in for Outlook, have released a web plug-in for Gmail.
Currently only available in Beta, to which subscriptions have closed, the plugin offers a similar level of functionality to users of GMail (both free and Business / Education users) to that offered to users of the Outlook desktop plugin.

The tool is displayed as a panel at the right hand side of the main GMail web interface and features such at-a-glance information as the number of mails exchanged with that person, their contact details, their Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn status updates if they have any not to mention other contacts in your address book that have also communicated with that person (on which communications you have been party to). A search feature is also available.

Watch this space for more information on a public trial of the new service.
